In the last few years, Liz Bacall has been on 17 mission trips to the Dominican Republic, Ecuador and Nicaragua—and she envisions all the wonderful possibilities available to help those less fortunate. Liz says, "There is nothing I've done that is more rewarding than leading a team. People go with the idea that they are there to help the local people, only to realize that they receive far more than they give."

These charitable opportunities are not enough for this inspired woman. She has a dream of her own that she's been visualizing for years: to educate, feed and immunize children, and to empower women. One day, she intends to see a school built by teams of North Americans for under-privileged Nicaraguan children. She imagines how she'll buy the land and materials to construct housing for the teams. Then they'll come and build that school, which will have teachers from Nicaragua trained in Montessori education. There will be a dietician to ensure each child has a well-balanced lunch every day and a physician on staff to administer health care. Women teachers and cooks will be paid respectable salaries. Liz can see her vision so clearly that there's no way it won't happen. It's a big dream, but an important one that will effect positive change in many lives.

For Liz, this is not just an idle idea that will manifest only in her mind. She is a doer, and always has been. She is passionate and thoroughly energized by helping her community. "It's important to me to work both locally and globally, both in the Palm Beaches and in Nicaragua," she says of her volunteer work. In the past, she has had the opportunity to work with abused women and teens. She has given of her time and made donations to homeless shelters. And she knows her job has just begun.
